Mindful Leadership in Action – Tip of the Week – Make Everything You Do an Act of Service

Posted on by admin

One of the ways to bring greater joy to your life is for everything you do to be an act of service.  Service arises when we are fully present.  The act of being fully present is a service to ourselves and anyone who witnesses it.  Being fully present makes the moment sacred and in that is sheer joy.

And to that presence, add compassion.  In doing that, nothing changes and everything changes.  One of the effect of this is to decrease stress.  When we are in our heads about how much needs to be done we become stressed and overwhelmed.

So from that place of presence and compassion (self compassion included) determine your priorities.  Here are some questions to ask yourself:

  1. What gives me the greatest joy to do?
  2. What is it that only I can do?
  3. What can be safely postponed?
  4. What is driving my need to do the things that really don’t need to be done right now?

Gently reflect on your answers.  And know that whatever you choose to do in a given day, you owe it to yourself and others to be present.  In so doing, all are acts of service and everything, however, large or small is sacred.
